However, swimming is not quite possible when the weather is cold. Aside from being uncomfortable, swimming in cold water is not advisable, especially for older adults and young children.

Importance of Pool Heating

In Perth, a properly installed pool heating system allows you to enjoy swimming and have your daily exercise even if it’s nighttime or when the weather starts to become colder.

How warm you keep the water is up to you, but the ideal temperature is 78°F. However, young children and the elderly need water that is at least 80°F or warmer.

With a pool heating system, you get to enjoy swimming, by yourself or with family, from early morning until late at night.

Types of Pool Heating Systems

  • Electric resistance heaters. The heating unit itself is quite inexpensive, but it is not easy to install. It’s also not very energy-efficient because it needs a large amount of electricity to run. For this reason, it is mostly used for small therapy pools and portable spas.
  • Gas heaters. Gas heaters operate on natural gas or propane. This is probably the most common type of pool heater because it is quite inexpensive to purchase and gas can heat water quickly.
However, this type of pool heater is fast losing its popularity mainly because gas prices are constantly on the rise, and it is not very energy-efficient. Additionally, gas heaters are not environmentally friendly since they emit chemicals that contribute to air pollution.
  • Heat pumps. Heat pumps are also operated with the use of electricity but are more energy-efficient than electric resistance heaters. The source of heat could be the air or heat from the underground.
The upfront cost is high because the unit itself is expensive. However, the operation cost is quite inexpensive, which means you get to save more over time.
It is also environmentally friendly and can also last up to 20 years with proper care. The other downside, though, is that it heats pools rather slowly.
  • Solar Heaters. Solar heaters harness the power of the sun through solar panels to heat a pool. The initial purchase may be a little steep, but it is environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and has a long lifespan.

To enjoy your pool from sunrise ’til sunset, a pool heating system is a must. It will also allow you to enjoy and get your daily swimming exercise during the cold season without catching a cold.
