| Paul David Tripp |
Speaker for CRC 4th Annual Conference (April 21, 2007)
I wake up every day with a great sense of privilege. It
amazes me that I have
been chosen to do what I daily do. And it even amazes
me more that I get paid to do it!
There is nothing that I could have done to earn or
achieve this gift. I am very aware of
the undeserved privilege of the life that I lead.
Now, what exactly is it that excites me so? What exactly is it that fills me with such a sense of honor and privilege? Well, it’s not that I get to be on the radio, or that I have been able to write books, or that God has allowed me to travel the world because of the ministry he has called me to. All of these things are nice, but they aren’t what get me up in the morning. What fills me with new excitement and new motivation every day is that I have been chosen by God to communicate to people the most essential, important, practical, and encouraging message that human ears could ever hear. What is that message? It is the message of the heart and life transforming grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, here’s what motivates me. I am deeply persuaded that masses and masses of people do not understand this essential message, even though they say that they believe it and think that they understand it. Here is my experience as I have talked to believers all over the world. Many, many believers have a huge gap, smack dab in the middle of their Gospel. Now, maybe you’re thinking, “Paul, I don’t have a clue what you are talking about.” Well, permit me to explain. |

Sermon on Conflict Resolution from James 4:1-10
James 4:1-10 reads, "What causes quarrels and
what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your
passions are at war within you? [2] You desire and do
not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain,
so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because
you do not ask. [3] You ask and do not receive,
because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your
passions. [4] You adulterous people! Do you not
know that friendship with the world is enmity with
God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the
world makes himself an enemy of God. [5] Or do you
suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture
says, 'He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has
made to dwell in us'? [6] But he gives more grace.
Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives
grace to the humble." [7] Submit yourselves therefore
to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8]
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your
hearts, you double-minded. [9] Be wretched and
mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to
mourning and your joy to gloom. [10] Humble
yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
This sermon instructs believers on what questions they need to ask in order to resolve conflict well. While some people say, "There is no such thing as a bad question," it cannot be denied that there are questions that inevitably lead to bad answers. This is especially true of the questions we ask in the midst of conflict. For a copy of the note-taking sermon booklet click here. |
